Chrysalis House is a safe and non-judgmental environment providing shelter and outreach services for women and children. These services include support, advocacy, referrals, resources, public education and community development. We recognize that oppression exists in a multitude of forms and are proactive in empowering women to have hope and make their own choices to live free from violence and abuse. Chrysalis House provides crisis, shelter, support, outreach, advocacy and transitional services for women and their children who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing violence and abuse. Our catchment area includes Kings, Annapolis and West Hants counties in Nova Scotia. We also provide support and information for family, friends and community members in relation to violence against women.
Residential Treatment
Women without children are eligible to participate in our unique program.CHI only accepts clients with Medicaid insurance. With new leadership, a newly renovated facility,and an enhanced treatment philosophy, ourarms are open for women and children in need. It is the vision of Chrysalis House, Inc. to help recovering chemically dependent women and their families lead sober, independent lives that are socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually stable and rewarding. We offer a residential treatment program, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for women seeking ongoing outpatient treatment support, and aftercare in four supportive homes in the area. Sobriety, family preservation, parenting skills, dual diagnosis services, and employability are central focuses of Chrysalis House’s treatment services for women with substance use disorders. Serenity Apartments a recovery housing community owned by Chrysalis House. Our recovery housing program is designed to offer a safe living environment with onsite treatment and support for women with children who have completed residential treatment.

Characteristics and Principles of Family-Centered Treatment
Chrysalis House delivers residential treatment in a three-phased level system that facilitates the development of key skills and the achievement of milestones leading to graduation from the residential programming. Persons served move from more structured to less restrictive settings as they complete phases of the program. The persons served move from higher levels of intensity to lower levels as they stabilize and symptoms are reduced. Through individualized case management, an evolving job-readiness program, and by providing access to an array of supportive services, Chrysalis helps our clients overcome their barriers to reconnecting to the workforce. Chrysalis House Healthy Start (CHHS) serves Maryland residents who are pregnant or with one child under the age of three, and who have a history of substance use disorder or mental health issues. We provide public education sessions and information about violence against women to individuals and organizations upon request.

However, length of stay in the first phase of the program, residential living, generally ranges from 4 to 6 months. As closet space may be limited, do not bring more than two pairs of shoes or handbags. Bring sheets and pillowcases (twin bed), comforter or blanket, towels and wash cloths, personal hygiene supplies, and a 30 day supply of any medications you have been prescribed. CHI provides adoption services to families in 26 counties throughout the state of California. Chrysalis House is a member of the California Association of Adoption Agencies (CAAA) and the National Council for Adoption (NCFA). It’s a collective movement aimed at empowering and uplifting our clients as a community – one donation and one month at a time. Chrysalis holds that successful addiction treatment for women must assess, define, and satisfy their needs in ways that do not involve drugs or alcohol. A day at Chrysalis House is spent in psycho-educational groups, therapy groups, and individual therapy.
